Welcome to Pop Meets Classical, a one-day jam packed camp for kids who love music. This camp is geared towards students who have taken at least one year of private instruction. We welcome violin, drums, guitar, bass, piano, vocalists.... and more!

Class segments include:

  • Grooves for Classical Players
  • Music Theory for beginning and intermediate levels
  • How to start a band
  • Why is Classical Music cool?
  • Pop Music History

Taught by Emily Moore and Taylor Kennedy, students are sure to leave this experience excited to practice and with new ways to look at music. Pop Meets Classical is brought to you by South Bay Suzuki, a boutique music school in Torrance offering violin and guitar lessons to students ages 3+.

About Emily Moore (violin)

Trained in the driving melodies of Celtic fiddle tunes and the precise beauty of Classical music repertoire, Emily Moore is an active performer and educator in Southern California. Studying violin and piano from the age of 4, she has remained a lifelong student in music, finishing her BM in Popular Music Performance from USC and in continuing education with the Suzuki Association. A dedicated educator, Emily is the founder of South Bay Suzuki. She loves connecting with students of all ages and their families and deeply believes in the transformative power of music education.

About Taylor Kennedy (drums)

Originally from Santa Cruz, Taylor started playing drums at the age of 11 where he found rhythm in everyday life. Practicing like mad, Taylor never took for granted how cool it was to have a drum set in the house and started playing gigs with his dad by the age of 13. Together they played bars, weddings, private parties, and cruise ships, often focusing on Brazilian and jazz styles, his Dad's specialty. Taylor holds a BS in Music Industry from USC and truly enjoy sharing his love of music and drumming especially with young, up and coming drummers.  He also enjoys the outdoors, surfing and spending time with his family.
